ROSEAU, Dominica– Windward Islands, chasing 181 for victory, reached 12 without loss in their second innings at the close on the third day of their rain-hit second round match in the Regional 4-day cricket championship.
Yesterday, Windwards resuming on 186-8, were all out for 252, a lead of 114. Delorn Johnson 51, Andre Fletcher 36, Nelon Pascal 36, Garey Mathurin 27 and Keddy Lesporis 23 all chipped in with the bat. Veerasammy Permaul captured 5-64 for Guyana.
The Guyanese, despite some shaky moments, battled to reach 294, their highest score this season. Narsingh Deonarine 84, Christopher Barnwell 75, Assad Fudadin 51 and Derwin Christian 21 contributed with the bat. Liam Sebastien 4-55 and Garey Mathurin 3-64 led the Windwards bowling.
Chasing 181 for victory, the Windwards reached 12 without loss in their second innings at the close yesterday. Today is the final day.
Scores: Guyana 138 and 294; Windwards 252 and 12-0.
And in Kingston, Jamaica, the home team beat Barbados by 120 runs on the 3rd day of their 2nd round match.
Set 293 for victory, Barbados were bowled out for 172 in 51.5 overs. Jonathan Carter, who went to the crease at No. 5, topscored with 64 before he was eighth out, caught at long-on by David Bernard off leg-spinner Odean Miller with the score 146 in the 43rd over. He faced 73 balls and struck eight fours and two sixes.
Carter and Kemar Roach, who made 26, featured in the best stand of the innings – 47 for the eighth wicket.
Left-arm spinner Miller again undermined the Barbados batting to grab five for 24 off 17.5 overs including ten maidens. He had a match haul of ten for 49 off 39.5 overs with 18 maidens.
Carter reached his half-century in 103 minutes off 58 balls.
The match ended at 4.36 p.m. when Roach was caught a mid-off by Andrew Richardson off Miller.
It was the second win for Jamaica, the champions for the past four seasons, lifting them to 24 points. Barbados were playing their first match of the season.
Scores: Jamaica 287 and 162; Barbados 157 and 171.
