Lovers of bodybuilding and fitness will be pleased to know that one of their favourite shows will make a grand return to compliment and improve the development of the sport and athletes in Guyana.
The original organisers of the event have committed to bring back the show and on Saturday night at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street, Flex Night Inc. were officially unveiled at a cocktail and reception.
Managing Director Donald Sinclair informed that Flex Night – the bodybuilding and fitness event that thrilled Cultural Centre audiences many years ago is back in Guyana and in the charge of a legally established company – Flex Night Incorporated.
The show will be held regionally – Berbice, Linden and West Demerara – before the grand Flex Night International and Health & Fitness Expo set for December 8, 2012 at the National Cultural Centre.
At Saturday’s launch which was attended by President of the Guyana Amateur Body Building & Fitness Federation (GABBFF) and President of the Suriname Bodybuilding & Weightlifting Federation (SBWB), Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Youth & Sport Alfred King delivered remarks on behalf of the Ministry.
King said that his Ministry is impressed with the way people considers opportunities in sports as it relates to economic benefits noting that too often the value of sports is taken for granted as a product that can be marketed heavily for tremendous economic gains.
“I think this is the first of its kind in Guyana where someone is using a sport, putting a brand on it and developing a series of related activities, not only to promote the particular sport for what it can benefit the entire country in terms of healthy lifestyles; opportunities for athletes; more exposure; entertainment, but beyond that.
How it can bring back serious economic returns, how it can generate wealth for group and how it can attract people in terms of a tourist nature. It will allow Guyana to be sold as a sports destination with the intended influx of athletes from overseas.”
King remarked that the aim of Flex Night Inc. is in keeping with the Ministry’s policy of providing tremendous opportunities for elite athletes to participate and have more exposure; officials having more opportunities to officiate and improve on their competence as well as promoters exploiting business opportunities.
Flex Night Inc. is promising that there will be more exposure for athletes where all will be a winner and will also work closely with the GABBFF to promote and develop the sport.
President of the SBWB in remarks congratulated Flex Night Inc. while stating that it will be a success. Suriname will be sending a large contingent of athletes and officials for the December event including guest posers.
GABBFF President Keavon Bess in is presentation also complimented Flex Night Inc. for putting together this event while pledging the support of his federation. Bess challenged Flex Night Inc. to make the event an annual affair.
Flex Night News will be launched in April / May with the Regional shows taking place between September and November leading up to the grand International event in December. At the International event on December 8, there will be a Miss Bikini contest, Miss Best legs, Mr. Flex Night along with the Health & Fitness Expo.
The five Directors of the company are Donald Sinclair (Managing Director), Robyn Marshall-Lord (Corporate Secretary and Finance Director), David Gomes (Director of External Resources), Onai Vasconcellos (Director of Event Logistics) and Diane Sinclair (Director of Judging and Personnel).
The three Regional Coordinators are Winston Clement (Berbice), Shellyann Barker (Upper Demerara) and Oswyn Jones (West Demerara).
