A father, Desmond Ross called Desmond Douglas, 40, and his son Travis Mayers, 19, both of Number 53 Village, Corentyne, were yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Krishendat Persaud, when they appeared before him at the No 51 Magistrate court, charged with attempted murder.
The men are accused of attempting to kill their neighbour, 32-year-old Mark Jeffrey, who they brutally chopped on Wednesday last at No 53 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Jeffrey, a father of one and a vendor in Pitt Street, New Amsterdam was chopped on his left foot, head, left shoulder, back and also had two of his fingers cut.
The court was told that on the day in question, Jeffery was at home and was just about to step out of his house when he noticed Ross, armed with three cutlasses and a fork, looking at him. Before he realised what was about to happen, Douglas had already scaled the fence and was upon him.
Jeffrey received a chop on his left leg, which almost severed it. He fell and upon looking up, he saw the man about to plunge the fork into his stomach.
He managed to move aside just in time as the fork was plunged into the ground. The man then chopped him across his shoulder twice as well as several other parts of his body before he managed to grab the cutlass.
Douglas’ son Travis also joined in the act and chopped the wounded man across his back, apparently with the intention of finishing him off.
Jeffrey was picked up by neighbours and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital before being transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he remains a patient.
The suspects were later arrested and charged.
