With the start of the 2012 Horse Racing season delayed due to the inclement weather with the rescheduling of three race meets so far, the principals of the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club & Sports Facilities (RCMTC&SF) are pushing ahead with preparations for their race meet slated for Sunday 26th February at its Alness Corentyne, Berbice track which effectively will be the first race meet for the year.
According to information, the track has dried out nicely and renovation and sprucing up work has recommenced at the famous venue which is considered one of the better tracks and racing facilities in Guyana. The RCMTC track is very fast and dries quickly and a number of horse owners’ relish racing there.
Nine races have been carded for the day with an encouraging $5M in cash, trophies and other incentives up for grabs.
A number of feature events are listed on the programme with the events for B and Lower, E&F and lower, the event for 4yrs old open Guyana & West Indies Bred horses and the two three year old races, one for Guyana and West Indies Bred horses and the other for Guyana bred animals taking the cake.
A number of sponsors are already on board with Banks DIH limited, Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, Delmur Company Limited, Omai Transportation, Mohammed ‘Nankoo’ Shariff of the Shariff Racing Stable, Attorney at Law Poonai and the RCMTC itself.
The main feature event which will be sponsored by Beverage giants Banks DIH for horses classified B and lower over a distance of 1500M with the first prize being tagged at $700,000 and the Banks DIH Limited trophy.
The other events are; the E&F and lower race, which now fetches a winning money of $350,000 over 1200M, the event for 4yrs old Guyana & West Indies Bred horses classified F1 and lower also has a winning purse of $350,000 over 1500M, the 3yr old Guyana and West Indies Bred race is for a $300,000 first prize over 1400M.
The three year old race for Guyana Bred horses has a winning money of $250,000 over 1200M. The G class race will now be a 1500M race for the pole position money of $200,000.
The H1 and lower competitors will battle for a winning purse of $160,000 now over 1200M, the I2 race replaces the I3 contest and will have a winning money of $120,000 over 1200M.
There is a J K and L Division 1, 2 and 3 contest which will see the winner getting $90,000 over 1200M.
The races are run under the rules of Guyana Horse Racing Authority. Interested owners can make contact as early as possible with the office at Number 13 Hermitage East Coast Berbice (19 Road).
