Dear Sir,
A former Director, Mr, David Yhann has broken his silence on the New Building Society saga and has disclosed that the Board knew from the outset that the Managers were not involved in any fraud. Why then were the men not supported by the Board during the four years that they were before the Courts?
Did any Board member have knowledge of and participated in the trumped up charges against the Managers? Can it be explained why a certain person connected to NBS met privately with the DPP prior to the institution of the charges? Can it be explained also why another at the special meeting in September, 2007 deliberately tried to convince the members in his usual intimidating and cuss down style that the men were guilty? A tape of the entire proceedings of that meeting can be obtained from a local television newscast to confirm the foregoing. And then again if the Board knew that the men were innocent, why did another appear on National Television and in referring to the men proclaimed “The perpetrators were handed over to the Police”?
The answers to these questions can be ascertained through an independent and transparent inquiry. A columnist in today’s papers said that it is rumoured that this matter may be politically motivated. The persons involved in this heinous act must be exposed and made to face the full force of the law.
We cannot allow this travesty to continue in this country that boasts of being a democratic state. Guyanese, wake up and smell the coffee, add your voice for an investigation. You may be the next victim.
James Ramdin
