The work being done by School of the Nations and Varqa Foundation in Tiger Bay is gathering momentum. For more than two years, more than 100 children, youths and adults from the Tiger Bay community have been attending a variety of classes in the afternoon, at the school.
These classes are in the areas of literacy, computer training, art and sport. More than 50 Sixth Form students act as mentors as part of their service project.
The business community in the area is becoming increasingly involved.
Recently, Stanley Ming, of Mings Products and Services, donated $1 million to the project. And on January 20, last, the owners of New Thriving Restaurant, Mr. Xiao Guang Zhao and Mrs. Che Jian Ping, made a similar donation to further the project.
