Police on the East Coast of Demerara are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at Annadale, East Coast Demerara.
The body of 52-year-old Surendra Roy Singh called ‘Contest’, who relatives say had no fixed place of abode, was found floating in a canal at around 17:15 hours yesterday by residents of the area. Shortly after the discovery was made the police were notified. The man’s body was photographed by police ranks before it was taken away by undertakers of the Lyken Funeral Home.
Meanwhile the dead man’s sister, Sumintra Singh said another relative had telephoned and informed her that her brother’s body had been found. The woman said she last saw her brother, who is said to be an alcoholic, during the Christmas season.
“He don’t like work, he never married or get any children, so he don’t really come around we,” the woman said.
Meanwhile the police are awaiting a post mortem examination which will reveal the cause of death.
