– Sarwan unavailable to play for Guyana
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA: The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) on Saturday announced that the team selected to participate in the Regional 4-Day Tournament will leave Guyana today for Dominica where they will play their first round match.
The early departure of the team is to facilitate practice matches ahead of the opening tournament match on February 3. The GCB organized the practice matches in Dominica after encountering difficulties with preparation at home as a result of the ongoing government lock-out.
Meanwhile, Shivnarine Chanderpaul will be playing in Bangladesh during the early rounds of the Regional 4-Day Tournament and Royston Crandon will replace Chanderpaul for the matches he will miss as a result of being in Bangladesh.
GCB President Ramsay Ali, said that “the actions being taken by the GCB and the WICB to facilitate the Guyana team in the Regional 4-Day Tournament is an effort to ensure that the players are in no way affected by the current challenges facing the administration in Guyana.” Ramsey Ali reiterated that, “…the GCB continues to pursue every legal means to regain access to the GCB Office and calls on the Government to sign the agreement reached on January 11 between the Government of Guyana and the WICB.”
The GCB is of the view that the agreement, brokered by the CARICOM Secretariat, would allow both the GCB and the Government’s IMC to function in their different roles for the best interest of Guyana’s cricket.
