A former Headteacher was yesterday placed on $15,000 for allegedly using too much force in disciplining her adopted daughter. Jean Mentor yesterday appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton and pleaded not guilty to the offence of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Mentor was said to have injured Nancy William, a young lady for whom she is the legal guardian.
Defence Attorney Mortimer Codett, made an appearance on behalf of the former school head and asked that the woman be placed on reasonable bail.
Codette alleged that Mentor arrived at her home and found Williams engaged in activities that were not right. The lawyer said Mentor started talking to the girl about her behaviour and a heated argument started.
Codette alleged that Mentor was correcting the young lady on her conduct and is now facing the court. Magistrate Octive-Hamilton argued that some sort of force was obviously used against Williams since the charge said that Williams endured actual bodily harm.
The lawyer indicated that the young lady received mere scratches and that would be clarified during her trial.
Mentor was ordered to return to court on February 7.
