Tenders to build over 10 kilometres of road and bridges in a new housing scheme behind Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, yesterday attracted a total of twenty (20) bids.
An Engineer’s Estimate has placed costs of the roads and three bridges at over $1B.
The new scheme, referred to as Plantation Herstelling Phase II, is to be located east of the current Buddy’s Housing Scheme and is likely to see 1,000 house lots being created.
Government had announced that it is planning to add 10,000 more house lots along the East Bank Demerara corridor, making it among the most populated areas in the country.
A housing official yesterday said that it is too early to say how many house lots will be added in the new Herstelling scheme as the roads are now being built. However, he estimated that it should be no less than 1,000 with the new roads to be between 10-15 kilometres.
The tenders, opened yesterday at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board, Ministry of Finance, Main Street, were divided into five lots with the Engineers’ Estimate for Lot 1- $233,853,922; Lot 2 -$226,377,832; Lot 3- $212,811,806; Lot 4- $290,106,997 and Lot 5 -$77,908,270.
Lots 1-4 are for the roads, while Lot 5 is for the construction of three bridges.
