A female miner was yesterday remanded to jail after an appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry.
Michelle Sanko was charged for having in her possession six grams of cocaine and 19 grams of cannabis at the Ogle International Airport as she sought to board a plane for the interior.
Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) alleged that 38-year-old Sanko of Lot 472 Sophia, was an outgoing passenger when clerks at the airport accepted her luggage to be checked. The woman, Vic Puran, CANU prosecutor said, was at the time travelling with three persons who were identified as her employees.
The prosecutor said that the three persons denied the luggage being theirs. Puran also said that Sanko’s articles were separate from those of the persons travelling with her, and in the suitcases were some light bulbs which Sanko had the receipt for.
The woman was therefore arrested for the drugs and brought to face the court.
Sanko was remanded and her matter was transferred to the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court for January 25.
