Three CID ranks are under close arrest after they were caught red-handed breaking into a car in the Providence Police Station compound.
The incident occurred around 01:00 hrs last Saturday.
Kaieteur News understands that the silver-grey vehicle was taken to the Providence Police Station after it was found abandoned in Prospect, East Bank Demerara on Thursday. It was reportedly abandoned following a high-speed chase.
On Friday night, three detective constables from the Brickdam Police Station visited Providence Police Station and demanded the car keys. They alleged that they wanted to search the vehicle since they suspected that arms and ammunition were inside.
However, the ranks told the detectives to return the following day when the station sergeant was on duty.
But around 01:00 hrs on Saturday, the detectives broke into the car. They were observed by some of the ranks and the matter was reported.
After being questioned, the detectives were placed under close arrest at TSU Headquarters.
