The police have launched an investigation into the disappearance of one parcel of cocaine which went missing on Friday last. This coincided with the appearance of the accused in a massive cocaine seizure.
This publication was told that several ranks from the Police Narcotics Unit uplifted the drugs from the magazine in the Tactical Service Unit compound, Eve Leary last Friday.
The ranks after uplifting the drug were escorted with extra security from Georgetown to Bartica. This publication was also told that a Cadet Officer was also a part of the escort team.
The parcels of the drug were carefully counted before they left Georgetown. Once the ranks and the drugs arrived in Bartica the drugs were placed in a special room at the Bartica Police Station by three ranks.
There are reports that it was only after the drugs were returned to Headquarters and were being place back into storage that ranks realized that one package was missing. Senior officers were immediately informed and an investigation has been launched.
This publication was told that all the ranks who were apart of the operation have since submitted statements on the day’s activities.
On June 10, last year, police ranks acting on information intercepted a boat at Batavia Island with an estimated $800 million of cocaine. Terry James, Louis Alberto Garcia, Clint Collier, Deonarine Singh and Randolph Singh have since been charged and are currently before the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
The four men are accused of trafficking in 149 kilogrammes 638 grammes of cocaine at Batavia Island, Cuyuni River, Essequibo.
