NBS 2nd div. 40 over cricket
A brilliant, undefeated century from Naeem Yacoob was the cornerstone of No.70 Young Stars easy victory over No.69 Red Rose which ensured they made a clean sweep of Zone N and securing their place in the last-16 playoffs of the 2011 New Building Society second-division 40 over cricket competition in Berbice.
Playing at No.69, No.70 Young Stars won the game that was reduced to 35 overs by 83 runs. Naeem Yacoob featured in a number of meaningful partnerships first with his brother Ryan (17) for the fisrt wicket (42); 83 for the 2nd wicket with Mark Lionel (33), 52 for the 5th wicket with Chatterpaul Lionel (23) and then in an unbroken 6th wicket partnership of 63 with Chris Bollers (27 not out) guiding Young Stars to 252 for 5 in 35 overs.
Yacoob ended a 118 not out which included 10 fours and 5 sixes. Bowling for Red Rose, Nehru Gopaul took 2 for 4.
When No.69 Red Rose responded, Trishan Narinedat slammed 58 (5×4 1×6) and Tariq Chaitram 35, the two putting on 81 for the 4th wicket but however, in vain as their team could only reach 169 for 6 in their 35 overs. Bowling for No.70 Young Star, Thameshwar Ramoutar took 2 for 15 and Omesh Khemraj 2 for 22.
