Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) are still trying to
save the 31-year-old Berbice farmer, who had received several pellet shots in his head and spine on Monday last.
Injured is Bijai Ramdass of Lot 41 Grant 1806, Crabwood Creek.
Reports indicate that some disagreement concerning payments between Ramdass and another man, who was said to be a partner in a plantain farming business in Crabwood Creek, took its toll after one of the parties involved decided to take matters into his own hands and went on a shooting spree at Crabwood Creek Sideline dam.
During the shooting, 17-year-old Hazrat Abrahim, of Lot 114 Grant 1806, suffered injuries to his side. He has since been discharged from the Skeldon Hospital.
Ramdass, however, was first admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital, and then transferred to GPHC.
It is believed that eight of the pellets were stuck in Ramdass’s head and there are a few in his backbone.
According to a relative, doctors have tried their best to save his life but the pellets are deep down and cannot be removed.
She further noted that the pellets pierced his spine and are close to his brain and cannot be operated on.
Currently, Ramdass is paralyzed in both feet and is partially blind. Doctors believe that he will lose his sight.
On January 17, last, a group of men (reports indicate about four) on the Upper Corentyne area escaped after they allegedly executed a well-coordinated shooting.
Relatives are now furious since no arrest as been made although the men were identified.
