The 2012 cycling season in the National Park, Guyana’s Premier Cycling Track, is set to pedal off on Saturday
January 28 with the 19th annual Ricks & Sari Agro Industries Ltd. 11-race meet.
Cyclists are hoping that 2012 will be a big year for the sport with more tactical and team riding among their aims.
National Cycling Coach, Hassan Mohamed who is attached to the National Sports Commission (NSC) and also the organiser, said that this programme will commence this year’s Teach Them Young season.
Defending the School boys & Invitational 35-lap title is Paul DeNobrega who won last year’s contest in One Hour 20 Minutes 32 Seconds. His quest to successfully defend will be a tough one given that all the major names in the sport are expected to be out in their numbers to contest.
Linden based cyclist Michael Anthony will be hoping that this year will see him really cementing himself as a rider to watch when he defends the number one spot in the juvenile race having won last year in 24 Minutes 11 Seconds.
Veteran Kennard Lovell, who did not have the best of years in 2011, will also be seeking to start the year on a high as the defending champion in the veteran Under-50 event.
Race time next Saturday is 09:00hrs and representatives of the sponsors are expected to be in attendance to assist with the presentation of prizes.
