The New Year observance is the most important festival for the Chinese people,
President Donald Ramotar and First Lady Deolatchmie Ramotar, toast to the Chinese New Year, with the Chinese Ambassador and his wife
and Guyana’s Head-of State Donald Ramotar joined the celebration at the Chinese Embassy on Wednesday.
The President along with key functionaries of the cabinet all joined and celebrated the Year of the Dragon.
Dignitaries were entertained with dances from both the Chinese and Indian dance groups.
Pointing out that it was
traditional at the beginning of every year to reflect on the past year’s highlights and challenges, President Ramotar added that resolves are often made to aim higher in personal ambitions, and national goals.
He commended the Government and people of China for recording economic growth during the world’s financial crisis in 2011, and to continue to successfully develop economic policies to advance the standard of living of the Chinese.
“We wish the Chinese people even greater progress and prosperity in the Year of the Dragon,” the President sta
ted, adding that “the Dragon holds a special significance for the Chinese people. It is fitting therefore that this year we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations.”
