The police are awaiting the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions on whether or not to institute charges against Police Commissioner Henry Greene.
According to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, an interim report was completed and submitted to the DPP on Monday last.
The investigation into rape allegations against the Commissioner commenced after a 34-year old woman made the allegation in mid-December.
Detectives from the Jamaica Constabulary Force were invited to be a part of the probe at the request of President Donald Ramotar.
They wrapped up their investigation within a two-week time frame during which they met with the alleged victim and visited the city hotel where the alleged rape occurred.
When asked why a full report was not submitted to the DPP by the investigating team, the Crime Chief explained that there was still some amount of work to be done.
“Some other things take a while, based on our experience. Things like telephone records from GT&T,” the Crime Chief told this newspaper.
Commissioner Greene is presently on administrative leave to facilitate the investigation.
But he could know his fate by the end of this week, in light of speculation over whether or not he will return to his post as head of the Guyana Police Force.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon had told a press conference recently that Greene could return to head the organization if the investigators do not find enough evidence to support a charge.
Since the allegations were made by the woman, Greene has remained silent.
“You know I cannot comment on the investigation,” Greene said when asked if he was contacted by the investigators.
In December last year, in an interview with several members of the media in the presence of her attorney Nigel Hughes, the woman had detailed her ordeal with the Commissioner whom she claimed had taken her to a city hotel and forced her to have sex with him against her will.
The woman has made it clear that she will see the matter through to its rightful conclusion
“Am I a mad woman to just come out of the blue with an allegation like this?”
