Having made their mark at the Caribbean, Regional, Commonwealth and International levels ever since their return to the Powerlifting scene a few years ago, The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) is aiming to send a full strength team to the 6th IPF/NAPF Caribbean Powerlifting Championships set for the United States Virgin Islands, March 28th – April 1, 2012.
Having won the 4th Annual Caribbean Islands Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships which were held in Guyana back in 2010, the Guyanese athletes were unable to defend that title due to the lack of funds travel.
This year however, the GAPF is confident that Guyana will regain the team title since they are pursuing vigorously, sending a full strength team to the USVI.
The team has already been named with local strongman Randolph ‘The Accomplisher’ Morgan (3-time champion and Best lifter overall male open) and strongwoman Dawn ‘The Cool Destroyer’ Barker (defending champion and Best lifter overall female open) headlining the Guyanese challenge.
Also included in the line-up are a number of promising juniors led by Berbician Vijai Rahim who ruled the roost at the 2010 championships along with the resolute Anis Ade Thomas who was also a top achiever at the 2010 championships.
Guyana will be contesting the team open championships as well as for individual honours.

World Records Attempts
Randolph Morgan and Winston Stoby will be attempting the World Dead Lift records in their respective categories at the Caribbean Championships in March; South American Championships in August and the World Masters Championships in October and eth World Open Championships set for November.
Morgan and Dawn Barker will also be attempting to qualify at Powerlifting for the World Games to be held in Colombia in 2013 when they compete at the South American and World Open Championships later this year.
An exciting year looms for Powerlifters in Guyana apart from the local competitions; Novice, Intermediate and Seniors.
