Universal Sports is an entity that imports sports equipment for every discipline and was once situated at 5th Street Alberttown. The proprietor, Andrew Budhan has recently moved over to 339 East Street Georgetown where he continues to offer top quality sports gears to local practitioners.
Mr. Budhan has always demonstrated faith in local sportsmen and women and in the past has selflessly donated gears and cash towards their advancement in their respective disciplines. Shifting his business site has certainly not shifted his patriotic stance and yesterday afternoon Mr. Budhan continued to pour out his heart to members of the sports community when he donated several sports items to the Assistant Coach of the Guyana 20/Twenty cricket team and coach of the Everest Cricket Club, David Harper at his East Street business place yesterday afternoon. He has since committed to continued support.
The veteran coach is also a former all round cricketer who has represented Guyana during his heydays and said that his highest score was notched up against the Demerara Cricket Club in 1985 when the Bata Cup was contested.
Some of the gears he collected included a pair if ASICS training boots and a set of cricket balls among other items. Mr. Harper was grateful for the items and told Mr. Budhan just that. He promised to use them towards the benefit of his charges.
Mr. Budhan also extended his chivalry to the Vreed-en-Hoop Presbyterian Church, an organization of which he is a part. That entity received table tennis gears including racquets, balls, nets as well as several taped tennis balls to facilitate activities in the tapeball cricket arena.
The sports coordinator of that church, Mr. Fabian Jones collected on its behalf and expressed gratitude to his benefactor. He said that the donation would go a far way towards the development of the youngsters in the church.
