Police Officers, comprising members of the Station Management Committee of the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam will collaborate with the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Boxing Coaches Orland ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers and Monty Bovell to host a Day of Interaction with the public and other sister organizations at the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam starting this morning.
The initiative was formulated several years ago with the aim of creating better relations among Police Officers and members of the public while enhancing the image of the Police Force with activities scheduled for the recently refurbished Central Police Station Play Field, the recreational centre and gym area of the station compound. Teams will be drawn from the various Police Stations and Departments in the Division including the neighbourhood Police Groups, the Community Police Groups, the various Police Youth Groups, Scouts groups and the Police Training School. Several other disciplinary services are scheduled to participate including the GDF, Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Prison Services.
Ranks from the New Amsterdam Constabulary are also expected to be a part of the day’s proceedings. Activities include football, table tennis, dominoes, cricket, and boxing.
Activities are coordinated by Assistant Superintendent Gordon Young, Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan and Station Sergeant Micheal Newland. Senior Police Officers of the division, members of the station management committee and the Berbice Chamber of Commerce will also grace the activity with their presence.
Director of Tain Campus, Professor Daziel Samad is also scheduled to play an integral part in activities.
