Dear Sir,
I just saw an article on January 8, written by a Manzoor Nadir, who I presume to be the former Minister of Labour and who was directly in charge of the Friendly Societies, which body conducted a five-month audit and investigation of the Guyana Cricket Board.
I make this presumption based on the fact that he has quoted confidential information gleaned from the Friendly Societies Registrar about the registrations of the GCB and the East Coast Board. The last we heard from this distinguished Former Minister, who, fortunately or unfortunately, was unable to hold onto his portfolio or any other position in the Cabinet under the new Government, was that the Rupert Foster report was being studied by him prior to being released.
To date, this report has not been released despite meeting with the GCB several times to discuss same. This was more than eight months ago. I wonder how many studies Minister Nadir had done in his career prior to and during his Ministerial postings and what qualifications and results he has achieved by those studies.
I call on Mr Nadir or his successor to immediately release this Rupert Foster report which gives the GCB a clean bill of health and severely contradicts his hypocritical position in this article.
I call on Mr. Nadir to reveal the clandestine manner with which he used Ministerial powers and registered a Specially Authorised Demerara Cricket Board, since he made no mention of this in his KN article (did not know he had become a journalist now) and why this registration was done.
He only mentioned the registrations of the GCB and the ECB and the reasons there for. The main reason that he registered that DCB hastily with Bissoondyal Singh was all part of the government machinations and an attempt to legitimize his faction.
What about the best board in the world? The Berbice Board. Why have they never been registered? He never factored into his equation that the CJ would have squashed all his illegal registrations since the Friendly Societies Act is very clear on the issue of membership. The former honourable Minister obviously did not study the Act which he governed prior to his actions.
Journalist Nadir, if that is indeed now his profession, should conduct a thorough study of the situation before issuing statements or articles since as a journalist or even a Minister, you are held to certain levels of professionalism quite distinct from being, maybe, a minibus conductor or a hire car driver.
He should make all efforts to get his facts straight and consult with the constitution of the GCB to verify what constitutes a quorum since it clearly states that there must be a minimum of two members and a minimum of 12 delegates.
At the AGM of the GCB on 10th July, 2011, there were three members present (BCB, ECB & the DCB) with a total representation of 21 delegates. The nine delegates of the DCB abstained from participation in the meeting which still left the meeting with a quorum.
A professional video recording of that AGM is available and will be aired soon.
The unedited version of this recording was made available to the Chief Justice prior to his decision to throw out the Angela Haniff matter.
Manzoor Nadir has been a politician for several years now and would know how political campaigns operate. His use of words such as ‘clique’, ‘manoevres’ and ‘collaboration’ are made to sound evil when referring to the Ramsey Ali campaign.
All of the presidential candidates for the GCB were courting the 27 delegates of the Board. It is no secret that Ramsey enjoyed the support of the nine delegates from the Essequibo Board and the nine delegates from the Demerara Board along with two others from the Berbice Board. That is what campaigns are all about.
At the end of the day, there would be a winner and there would be a loser!! Only now we have the sore loser and his lead attorney using the state apparatus and its resources trying to dismantle a legitimate body using all of the dirty tricks at its disposal.
