Three bandits stormed into the popular “Big B General Store, Snackette and Bar” at Lot 72 Fourth Street, Cummings Lodge on Saturday evening, robbing customers and employees of the business of an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables.
Reports are that around 19:30 hrs, 37-year-old Sharon James, who is employed as a salesgirl at the business, was closing the gate at the northern entrance when three men entered.
Two of the three were armed with guns- a “small one and a large one”.
Upon entering the yard, they brandished their guns and demanded that everyone lie face down on the concrete floor before proceeding to relieve the victims of their cash and other articles.
The men subsequently went into the building where they took James’ cellular phone. They also robbed her of $144,000 in cash, which was the money earned from the day’s sales.
Kaieteur News understands that the owner, 48-year-old Parmadai Balwan, was also robbed of her two cellular phones by the men.
The culprits subsequently ran out of the property through the western gate which leads to the Cummings Lodge Access Road.
According to sources, the perpetrators jumped in front of motor car (PKK 7909) which was being operated at the time by its owner 33-year-old Pharvishnauth Sankar, as he was driving South along the Cummings Lodge Access Road.
This newspaper was told that the man came to an abrupt halt to avoid hitting any of the men, who used the opportunity to point their guns at him and order him out of his car.
He was pulled from the vehicle and dealt several lashes to his head by the bandits who then entered the car and drove away.
Sankar, who resides at First Street, Industry, also lost his computer which was in his car when it was stolen by the bandits.
Kaieteur News further understands that the car was subsequently recovered yesterday morning in “B Field Sophia”. Police ranks are still investigating the matter. (Kristen Macklingam)
