A post mortem examination which was performed on the remains of 65-year-old Bebe Jahooral Banu has revealed that she died as a result of asphyxiation due to strangulation.
The post mortem was done yesterday at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour by Government Pathologist, Dr. Vivikanand Bridgemohan.
A source close to the investigation also revealed that semen was found on the woman’s private area. The semen has been taken for further testing.
Initial reports are that on Sunday at around 15:00 hours, Banu’s partly nude body was found in her De Willem, West Coast Demerara home.
Persons close to the woman said they tried all night Saturday night to get onto the woman via telephone but failed to contact her.
The man who was arrested claimed that he worked all night Saturday and only went home to take a bath and change his clothes when he made the discovery. The woman was reportedly found with a piece of cloth around her neck. One source told this newspaper that the woman’s dentures were found a distance from where her body was discovered.
Banu is a citizen of the United States but spends most of her time in Guyana. The woman was described as a very friendly person.
