Where has the people’s money gone?

Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter in the press on December 31, 2011 caption “Why the obsession with Jagdeo?” which accused sections of the media of trying to keep this man in the spot light.  I cannot speak for the independent media houses, but I can share my perspective on that question.
If one is to ask Lawrence Duprey from CLICO, the Directors of the Chinese company that built that white elephant called the Skeldon Sugar Factory, the Directors of the former Sanata Textiles, Fip Motilal from the famous Amalia Falls Road, the Directors of the Chinese company that is building the fiber optic cable, among others (I have a long list of other Directors), why this obsession, then you shall find many reasons why it is a relevant issue.  Where has the people’s money gone, might be a more pertinent question and until that question is answered, the obsession will continue.
As a further insight one needs to also ask, why the combined national debt is some US$1,500 million today when only five years ago it was some US$700 million.  What has this money been spent on? That is why the AFC was promising to bring in forensic auditors to jail those with sticky fingers regardless of what office they held.
So you see Mr. Kumar, you seem to be asking the wrong question.  The more appropriate question that needs to be asked is “Where has the money gone?”
