The administrative rift within the local cricket fraternity has reached an alarming level and several local players that have represented or are representing the regional cricket team are requesting a meeting with President Donald Ramotar to have the situation return to a semblance of normalcy. Among those players are reliable middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Christopher Barnwell, Sewnarine Chattergoon and spin bowler, Devendra Bishoo. The players are adamant that unless the current situation is rectified they stand to undergo unnecessary and unwarranted hardships.
The players concern comes just one day after Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) Dr Frank Anthony convened a media briefing in his Ministry’s Main Street boardroom to indicate Government’s stance on the cricketing issue. The Minister had stressed that there is nothing sinister about his Ministry’s intervention and in fact he was more concerned with mending the rift between the warring factions, while healing of Guyana’s cricket.
To this extent, an Interim Management Council (IMC) led by former West Indies captain, Clive Lloyd has been charged to solve the numerous discrepancies that have arisen with the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).
Below is the full text of the players’ letter.
