The Berbice Cricket Board has given the thumbs up to the Government of Guyana for appointing an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to run the affairs of cricket in Guyana.
Following is the full text of the press release:
“Even though it was long overdue, we still consider this move timely and we fully support the members named so far. With former West Indies Cricket Icon, Mr. Clive Lloyd heading the committee, there is no doubt that all genuine lovers of the game in this country will support the initiative. We all know that the so called Guyana Cricket Board was illegally elected. As a matter of fact, the elections were hijacked and unconstitutional. So it is absolutely necessary for intervention from the highest authorities in our land.
Every organisation and individual is answerable to someone and the illegal Guyana Cricket Board is no exception. It is public knowledge that there are many alleged cases of financial irregularities and we are confident that the IMC will correct this situation and return cricket to where it belongs.
We are in full support of the intervention and we must not be afraid of the threats of the illegal Guyana Cricket Board that Guyana’s Cricket will suffer. The Cricket is suffering anyhow and an effort to correct the situation by the Government should be welcome by all.
We are confident that this Interim Management Committee will put things in place so that a legal Board can be elected. It is still baffling as to why the West Indies Cricket Board accepted and recognised an illegal Guyana Board knowing the circumstances that surrounded the elections. The BCB hopes they {WICB} themselves are not creating a precedent for other territories involved in this glorious sport of the Caribbean or for themselves.
Once more, congrats to the Government of Guyana and we call on all responsible leaders of our Society to support this move so that the chaos created with our National game be resolved soon.”
