On Wednesday last, Berbice police conducted drug eradication operations at Gateroy and De Veldt in the Berbice River.
A total of eight fields of marijuana plants, approximately eight acres in size, with about 30,000 marijuana plants, ranging in height between one and 10 feet were found in the first raid at Gateroy. In addition the police found four nurseries with several thousand seedlings and several thousand Kilograms of dried Marijuana. Two camps were also found. They were all destroyed.
In another raid, which occurred in the Lower De veldt area, the police found about 10 acres of marijuana plants, ranging from one to six feet in height. Fourteen nurseries with several thousand seedlings and over 300 Kilograms of dried Cannabis were also found at the location.
A large Camp 40×40 was destroyed by the cops who also unearthed a water pump and spray cans.
The dried cannabis along with the marijuana plants were all destroyed.
Fourteen 12 gauge cartridges were also recovered at the Develdt location.
No arrests were made and investigations are continuing.
