A boat with goods valued US$80,000 on the way to Guyana from Suriname
sank Monday night in the Nickerie River, according to Suriname news.
On the boat were peanut cheese, liquor, tomato paste, coffee, television and other electrical equipment.
Besides the captain, there were three others, all Guyanese men. They were not wearing life jackets and managed to make their way back safely to Suriname after being thrown into the waters.
It is believed that the engine developed problems and coupled with rough waters, the boat started to take in water. The entire goods were lost.
According to the Dagblad Suriname, the boat left Suriname shores around 18:30 hrs on Monday.
Authorities started receiving reports around Monday midnight.
