The spate of violence in the hinterland escalated yesterday with the stabbing to death of 25-year-old Jermaine Mc Kenzie at an interior shop at Blue Mountain Mazaruni.
Mc Kenzie, of Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, was reportedly slain during an argument over a woman.
According to eyewitness reports, two men were talking to a young woman when Mc Kenzie approached her and attempted to tug her away from them.
When one of the men protested, the miner reportedly pushed him into a pool of water. It is alleged that Mc Kenzie was attempting to strike the man with a piece of wood when the other man stabbed the miner in the left ribcage.
Mc Kenzie began to vomit blood before collapsing to the ground. He died shortly after. His alleged killer fled and is still to be detained.
Meanwhile, Bartica Police are still trying to locate a woman from the community who allegedly stabbed 26-year-old Alvius Goddette to death at Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni, on November 2.
According to reports, the woman, who has a fish shop, was arguing with Goddette over money that he owed her when the stabbing occurred.
The woman fled the scene and her whereabouts are now unknown.
