Guyana’s Trinidad and Tobago-based distance runners, Kelvin Johnson and Lionel D’Andrade were
among the top three finishers on Sunday in the fifth stage of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) 10km Road Race.
The Guyanese duo placed second and third respectively behind Sherwin Paul in Grenada, which ensured that they were in the main prize monies. Paul won in 32:07 while Johnson was second in 33:27 and D’Andrade (33:34) closely following in the third position.
The two athletes are regular competitors at the NACAC 10km Road Race Series. Johnson would be especially happy with his performance, which followed his fifth place finish in the second leg of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) South American 10k Classic in Guyana last month.
Johnson ran 33:38.7 in Guyana last month, reducing his time for a better placing in Grenada on Sunday. D’Andrade did not compete in the South American 10k owed to the fact that he ran and won the Suriname
Marathon mere hours before the 10k commencement.
The athletes spoke to Kaieteur Sport from Grenada yesterday and both indicated their delight in the result of the race. They said that they are seriously contemplating moving on to the last stage of the NACAC 10k Series in Dominica this coming Sunday. (Edison Jefford)
