The Guinness Bar squad certainly eased the tension and pressure from their team-mates and supporters when they viciously mauled YMCA 7-2 in the thrilling ‘Guinness Greatest of de Street’ FUSTAL Tournament last Saturday on the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
The attack which started at the referee’s whistle saw Roberto Osbourne of YMCA sending out the first warning sign to Guinness Bar by registering the first goal for his team in the 1st minute of the game. The players from Guinness Bar did not allow the first goal from YMCA to discourage them as 14 minutes were still at hand in the first half of the game.
An equalizer came shortly after, when Odwin Hudson scored the first goal for Guinness Bar in the fourth minute. It was just a minute after Hudson’s goal, when Dennis Edwards registered the second goal in the fifth minute to turn on the heat on YMCA. Hudson’s duo in the eighth minute was his final input for Guinness Bar; YMCA were unable to spark their light in response to Guinness Bar 3-1 as they were struggling to score a second goal.
Raphael Edwards also scored a duo for his team, with his first goal in the thirteenth minute and second in the 18th minute. Carl Edwards, 14th minute goal in the first half closed the heat on YMCA for a while before the resumption.
YMCA made their second goal in the 25th minute but that goal certainly did not increase their chances of a mega come back since Devon Vernon cataloged Guinness Bar’s final goal in 23rd minute to make it 7-2 in their favour before Randy Persaud’s goal in the 25th min.
West Front Road and Hope Street Tiger Bay also had a stimulating game as both teams were fighting to secure advancement to the next round. However West Front Road clawed Hope Street Tiger Bay 3-2 to advance.
The initial goal for Hope Street Tiger Bay was logged in the fifth minute by Joel Lloyd but West Front Road’s Michael Oie responded a minute after Lloyd’s goal. The score line was now 1-1 for the first half.
Michael Oie broke the deadlock in the 18th minute of the second period after beating his opponents on the tarmac. Five minutes later, his team-mate Hubert Oie successfully kicked the ball in the goal to make the score line 3-1. Hope Street Tiger Bay replied to the three goals made by West Front Road a minute before the 15 minutes was too late as the latter ensured that no goal entries from the former were made.
The Media team also faced a 2-1 defeat from Clippers Saturday evening. Chris Camacho 17th minute goal was not sufficient to secure a win for the Media as Timothy Inford double in the 5th and 19th minutes ensured a definite win for Clippers.
Queen Street Tiger Bay was also defeated 2-1 by Alexander Village. Sheldon Gurrick opened the account for Alexander Village with his goal in the sixth minute. An equalizer was made a minute after by Alpha Fleterman (7th minute). After battling for several minutes in the second half, the deciding goal was made by Phillip Rowley in the 24th min for Alexander Village.
Sweet Point and Customs game ended in a draw (1-1) with Ravi Chand scoring on the fourth minute (Sweet point) and Rayon Grant in the sixth (Customs).
Upper Level and Back Circle beat Oasis and Broad Street respectively 1-0. Upper Level score was made in the first half by Jermaine Lingar in the fourth minute and Back Circle’s goal in the second half by Lloyd Kennedy in the 18th minute of the second half. Island All Star and East Front Road denied goal access to each other carrying the game to penalty kicks, eventually Island All Star won 2-1.
Semi-finals for the ‘Guinness Greatest of de Street’ FUSTAL Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday at the National Park Tarmac from 19:00 hrs with the following matches: Media v/s Upper Level, Customs v/s Guinness Bar, Alexander Village v/s West Front Road and Island All Star v/s Back Circle.
