McNeal Enterprise gave teams involved in the Banks DIH sponsored Georgetown Football Association Banks Beer Knockout Cup one million more reasons to play their hearts and soul out starting today at the Georgetown Football Club Ground, Bourda.
Yesterday at a simple handover ceremony, Lance DaSilva, Representative of McNeal Enterprise, presented the cheque for $1M to GFA Vice President Competitions, Mark Phillips in the presence of GFA President Lieutenant Commander Vernon Burnette at the Spicy Dish Restaurant in Third Street Alberttown.
This move by McNeal breaks new ground locally. It’s the first time that after having a major company (in this case Banks DIH) put up a first prize another entity has decided to add to it creating a bigger purse for the teams to vie for.
Banks DIH had originally put up $2M for the winner of the tournament, which opens today and concludes on January 1, and with the additional money, the teams will battle for a first prize of $3M.
The gesture by McNeal was applauded by both Burnette and Phillips and will be well received by the competing GFA teams.
Most of the GFA teams are not currently part of the Kashif and Shanghai tournament and the GFA executive made the bold move to arrange a tournament to ensure their teams are active and got the backing of Banks DIH, who readily pumped valuable sponsorship dollars into the event. McNeal further sweetened the pot with their donation, adding to the value and exciting of the tournament which promises fans a treat.
