Javed Vollet, a Canadian holidaying in Guyana, was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital after he reportedly fell from the third floor balcony of Princess Hotel around 01:00 hour yesterday.
The police have received conflicting reports about how the man fell. All they would confirm is that he sustained serious injuries.
According to reports, the Canadian citizen, was seen consuming alcohol at the Stadium View Bar across the road from the hotel, with some friends.
When he subsequently returned to his hotel room, Number 302 he was said to be very drunk. People however saw him sitting on the balcony rails outside his room. Minutes later, persons in the compound of the hotel were running to the man’s assistance. He had fallen 36 feet to the ground.
The man was immediately rushed to Woodlands Hospital where he remains a patient.
However there are reports that Vollet, in his intoxicated state leaped from the balcony. Even while being rushed to the hospital this publication was told that the man told security guards that he jumped from the building.
He reportedly suffered spinal and other injuries. Investigations are ongoing.
