Today Sunday December 11 is the day set aside for the Annual Port Mourant Turf Club one day horserace meeting at Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice. With all arrangements in place all is set for a grand day of racing in the seven events listed on the days programme with close to $7M up for grabs.
With the feature event being reverted to its original C class classification and the distance now 1200M, the distance will now suits the sprinters. However with all the horses having more than a month’s rest it should now be an open event. The winner’s money stands at a whopping $1.2M, enough to spur all of the competing jockey’s and animals to give of their best. Among those lining up to compete are: The Message, Night Crescendo, Who is on the Case, Jet Set Go, Stormy Flame, Grande Roja, Miss Orientate, Donut Prince, Gullium, Prince Charming, Dubai Duchess and Majestic.
The Three Year old co-feature event for Guyana and West Indies Bred Horses has a winning prize of $600,000 over 1500M. Most of the top runners in this division have been assembled with the line-up reading Work Force, Technology, Damascus Dream, Captain Crook, Face the Fire, Celebrating Love, Northern Dancer and Bridal Stone Corner.
Another top notch line-up has been assembled for the Two year old Open event for Guyana and West Indies Bred Horses. The distance is 1000M with the first prize taking set at $500,000. Those down to compete are Serenity, Settle in Seattle, Times have changed, Red Cloud, Rock Sonia, Something Stylish, Big Red, Kiara and Pride and Joy.
The newly made E class event has the likes of Majestic, Maya, Stormy Lass, Dubai Duchess, Prado Gold and Zelona among others competing for the $500,000 winners money over 1200 meters.
The G class race will see the winner getting $400,000 over the 1000M distance. Among them are Damascus Dream, Royal Champion, the Gump, Funny Sided, Infinity and Dream Girl.
Savion is among the ‘I’ and lower animals that will be competing for the $200,000 winners money over 1200M.
The final race is for I3 and lower horses over 1200M for a first prize of $150,000.
Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market will take care of accolades for the outstanding performers, which include top Jockey, top stable, top trainer among others. Among the other sponsors are The Shariff racing stable, Jumbo Jet, Geddes Grant, Republic Bank, Chris Jagdeo Construction, Nalgit and family and Romell Jagroop Construction Company among others.
Over 80 horses have taken entry and with all facilities in place an exciting and riveting day of racing is anticipated.
