This year’s Diamond Mineral Water (DMW) International Indoor Hockey Festival is set to start today with seven exciting matches, at the National Gymnasium, commencing from 15:00 hrs.
According to a release from the Organisers, teams from Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago will battle the locals for supremacy over the three-day competition.
As is customary, teams will battle in three categories with the highlight being the Men’s and Ladies Open, while the veterans usually do have an interesting clash among the teams.
In the fixtures, GCC takes on Hikers in a Veterans matchup and that is followed by GCC versus Hikers (Women) from 16:00hrs.
Match #3 pits defending men’s champion Hikers vs. Supernova from 17:00 hrs; Bokra, a team made up of former national players, taking on Malvern of T&T in a women’s encounter from 18:00 hrs; GCC engages Western Dragons in a men’s clash at 19:00 hrs; YMCA tackles Hikers (men) beginning at 20:00 hrs and in the final game of the night GCC and Old Fort do battle in a veterans matchup from 21:00 hrs.
The men’s category comprises Hikers, Old Fort, GCC, Malvern, YMCA, ABC-TT, Supernova and Dragons.
The Ladies division contains Hikers, Malvern, GCC and Bokra, while the veteran group is made up of Hikers, Fatima, GCC and Old Fort.
A number of top players based in the Caribbean will be participating in the Festival, while a few former Guyanese players based in North America has also arrived for the annual event.
