National Under-19 player Dominic Rikhi and Jason Sinclair on Sunday last played major roles in guiding Rose Hall Town Bakewell to its 4th successive victory in the Berbice Cricket Board / New Building Society Limited second division tournament.
Rikhi grabbed 6 for 14 off 7 overs, while Sinclair in his new role as a medium pacer took three wickets and returned with the bat to score an unbeaten 30 as Rose Hall Town Bakewell crushed Port Mourant Cricket Club ‘B’ by 8 wickets at the Area ‘H’ Ground.
Batting first after winning the toss, Port Mourant were given an opening partnership of 18 in 3.2 overs by Madan Budhram and Mahendra Veerasammy before Sinclair dismissed Veerasammy for 3 and from then on wickets fell at regular intervals, the visitors were eventually bundled out for 48 in 19.3 overs.
Karran Singh (14) and Budhram (13) were the only batsmen to reach double figures; off spinner Rikhi was almost unplayable in taking 6 for 14 and Sinclair 3 for 12. Sinclair who is a wicket keeper after completing his bowling spell returned behind the stumps to claim 3 catches and a brilliant stumping to dismiss Singh off medium pacer Jamal Jarvis.
Needing to score 49 off 40 overs Rose Hall Town Bakewell lost Rikhi caught behind off the bowling of medium pacer Manoj Looknauth first ball. Fellow opener Nicholas Cameron was then trapped LBW by Looknauth for 01 at 17 for 2 but Sinclair and 13-year-old Brandon Prashad batted solidly to take Rose Hall Town Bakewell to victory with an unbeaten third-wicket partnership of 33 runs.
Sinclair ended on 30 (2×6 3×4) while Prasad was on 16. Rose Hall Town Bakewell and Port Mourant ‘A’ would clash next weekend for a place in the play-off segment of the tournament.
