A man who told the court that he was a porter was yesterday placed on $40,000 bail after he was accused of a series of disruptive acts.
Kevin Maloney appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry and pleaded not guilty to assault and to two charges of threatening language against three persons.
According to the prosecution, Maloney reportedly assaulted Marcia Sharple and threatened Omianda Lewis and Maurice Lovell. The police’s information informed that the defendant and the virtual complainants are known to each other.
On the day of the incident there had reportedly been a misunderstanding between Sharple and Maloney, resulting in the defendant allegedly grabbing the woman by the hair.
On November 27, last, after another problem, this time with Lewis and Lovell, the accused allegedly promised to kill Lewis while he told Lovell that he would burn down his house. The complainants said that they became afraid and sought to involve the police. Maloney was arrested and charged.
Lovell and Lewis were available to carry on the matter against Maloney while Sharple was not present. The assault charge was subsequently dismissed as the Magistrate sought to waste no time on matters brought for her hearing while persons failed to present themselves without reason. Maloney will however face the other two matters against him.
The prosecution did not seek to prevent the man’s pre-trial liberty, only requiring that the man be placed on a substantial bail for his alleged disruptive behaviour.
The court prosecutor also asked that some conditions be imposed on the defendant to ensure his good conduct pending the conclusion of the matter.
The court ordered that Maloney move from his present location and sign a bond to keep the peace pending the end of his case.
He is expected back in court on December 6.
