A young tyre repair man lost his life on Sunday evening after the car he was driving turned turtle
several times on the Borlam (No19) Public Road, East Coast Berbice.
The man, Raghua Joshua Mohamed, 23, called ‘Tilly Boy’ or ‘Tyre Boy’ of Lot 6 Goed Bananen Land, East Canje, Berbice, died on the way to the hospital.
His brother-in-law, Dhamain Winjagellum of No. 1 Village, Corentyne, who was in the car at the time of the accident was treated at the New Amsterdam hospital and sent away.
According to information, Mohamed who operates a tyre repair and bicycle shop, at his grandparents’ home where he resides, left home earlier in the night to attend a wedding ceremony in the area.
It is understood that he left the wedding house later in the night and headed up the Corentyne to take his brother-in-law home when the vehicle turned turtle. It was about 20:00hrs.
The police, in a release, said that Raghua Mohamed was driving motorcar PHH 7874, a green wagon, along the roadway with passenger Dhamain Winjagellum of No. 1 Village, Corentyne, when he lost control of the vehicle which crashed.
Both men sustained injuries and were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Mohamed was pronounced dead on arrival, while Dhamain Winjagellum was treated and sent away.
Mohamed, who walked with a limp, was involved in a serious accident some years ago whilst riding his motorcycle on the said No19 Public Road (Sea well Turn area) where he was found lying on the road in an unconscious state. Following that accident he was hospitalised for several months.
