….says his salary is same as AG
President Bharrat Jagdeo lashed out at AFC’s Khemraj Ramjattan for criticizing and commenting on the First Lady Pension issue. He also addressed his parliamentary pension which has come under heavy criticism.
At a recently held public meeting at Canje, Jagdeo told the gathering that Ramjattan had commented about the First Lady pension of Ms Varshanie Singh, but “that there is no First Lady Pension”, and that he “is such a clown, but I know why because he wants to kill me, but I am a strong PPP man and I will be around to give him hell long after I stop being president.”
“They are worried about that—the Kaieteur and the Stabroek [News]… because I expose them. I expose all that they try to do to bring us down, and this Dave’s TV, is another set of vultures too, who can’t see a single positive thing about the PPP. They will try to disappear all our successes and give people like Ramayya an excuse, just because they collect a few pennies from them.
“Look at the other stations here, Pearl (Channel 10) and the others, they don’t do the same thing, because they don’t sell their birthright for a few dollars.”
He said that his pension and salary “is the same as the Attorney General and the Chancellor; it is not above them”. The seven- eighths, he said, “is standard and was set down there 30 years ago.”
He said that Ramjattan “doesn’t do any work in Parliament” but “will collect also seven- eighths of his parliamentary salary that he gets every month” and “every other benefit that they speak about Desmond Hoyte got, Janet Jagan got, and Arthur Chung”.
“What I did, I made sure it became transparent because the president must not sit and make up his own pension package.”
He said that the government has put the package in a law, and “anytime a president wants to change a benefit, he has to go to parliament in the full view of the public, not sit quietly in the cabinet and change it”, he said. “But they can’t find anything to talk about progress, so they have to come after me.”
He alleged that Ramjattan has “several properties and bandit house and doesn’t even subscribe to the Integrity Commission”.
Jagdeo said that he and every member of the Cabinet have submitted how much money they spend and make. He noted that every cent of his money can be accounted for.
He told the gathering that probably Ramjattan, Trotman, Nagamootoo and Nigel Hughes…pay less tax than one GuySuCo manager, and they own billions of dollars in massive assets.
“Ramjattan has already sold five duty free concessions that he got as Member of Parliament and they talk about corruption”, he posited.
He spoke about people whom he called skeptics about the Amaila Falls project. That is “no pie in the sky” project.
The road, he said, will be completed by January. He discounted opinions that there was a suspicious contract between the government and Fip Motielall. “Fip Motielall is no friend of the PPP. He won a tender—a public tender assessed by three engineers who made the recommendation, and he had the lowest price.
“But they had to find something negative to say.”
There is a new Manganese Plant to start soon. “RUSAL is expanding in the Berbice River. They are producing 1.2 million tons of bauxite and will go by five million tons by 2015” and 10 million tons by 2018,” he noted.
Jagdeo said, “Our revenue will practically double; the bad years have gone”.
By January, he said, offshore exploration will start soon in Berbice and that a Deep- Water Harbour will “be built here connected to a road in Brazil, creating thousands of jobs”.
