Bourda Blues with consecutive penalty shootout victories over Broad Street and Tiger Bay, by 4-3 and 5-4 margins respectively following goalless stalemates in both matches, enabled the central Georgetown lineup to secure their place in the finals of the Georgetown leg when play in the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport inter-block knockout tournament continued on Saturday, November 12 at GFC ground, Bourda.
The non-appearance of East Kitty piloted the Charlestown side to advance to the playoff match. Meanwhile, over on the Campbellville Community Centre ground, on Monday, November 14, North Kitty led by a solitary strike from Anthony Sancho edged out their Northern counterparts 1-0. The winning goal was netted in the 16th minute.
The following day at the same venue, First Street Warriors capitalized on their good fortune of advancing to the playoff match and subsequently the zonal playoff when they clinched the third and penultimate spot, after triumphing 3-1 in a penalty shootout over Campbellville Housing Scheme, following a 1-1 draw, in regulation time. Earlier, the Scheme side held off North Sophia 2-1.
In other results played at various venues across the region; there were victories for, Ithaca, BCC Rosignol, Hopetown, No.5 Village “B”, Calcutta and Mahaicony “B” over Rosignol, Rising Stars, Blairmont, No.5 village “A”, No.28 village, Mahaicony “A” and Paradise by 2-0, 1-0, 3-2, 3-1, 2-0 and 3-1 margins respectively.
In the West Berbice zone which kicked off at the Blairmont Settlement No.3, No.5 and Mahaicony grounds, on Wednesday, Nov 16, at the Blairmont Settlement No.3, Ithaca got past B.C.C Rosignol 2-0, Hopetown edged out No.5 village 1-0 at and No.5 ground, Calcutta won by default over hosts Mahaicony “B”. This was due to crowd encroachment by supporters of the home team after a penalty was awarded to the visitors, who were trailing 0-1 at the time of the abandonment.
The Georgetown and East Bank Demerara legs will culminate today along with West Demerara.
Meanwhile, in the Christianburg Final in Linden, Section B beat Section C 4-2 on Penalty Kicks after the game was deadlocked 1-all during regulation time.
Goals for Section B were scored by Andre Samaroo and for Section C was Mark Thomas.
The Wismar Final saw 1 Mile beating Silvertown 3-1. Scorers for One mile were Owen Williams 6th Minute, Ronald Caple 13th Minute, Steve Brewley 28th Minute, while for Silvertown Jermaine Grandison scored in the 17th min. The finals are scheduled to be hosted at Bay Rock Ground tomorrow.
