Nov 16, 2011 Letters
Dear Editor,
I have noted a letter from Adel Lilly and Mark Arthur in Kaieteur News (July 21, 2011) touching on PPP Donald Ramotar criticizing David Granger of APNU/PNC. Lilly wrote about Granger’s distinguished service, that he has been awarded the MSS: MSM efficiency medal BDM.
He/She spoke of Granger offering the country the experience and expertise he has gained in more than 30 years of public service and academia.
Archer wrote about records to prove that Granger may not be involved is misconduct. But conduct and misconduct are relative quantities left to the judgment of the observer. He also stated that APAN JHAAT is dead. If Apan Jhaat is dead the whole country will soon die for there will be no procreation.
JHAAT is a Hindi word for public hair. It is a pity when people parrot-like use words the meaning of which they have no knowledge. (Like Ramayya with his Chatoondar). When Lilly puts Granger on the pedestal of academia she has defined what that is. Let us then look at what Granger has written and sees how intellectually dishonest this distinguished son of the soil is when he sets out to prostitute historical records of our country.
Granger wrote in his book, THE NEW ROAD — A SHORT HISTORYOF THE GUYANA DEFENCE FORCE 1966¬1976.”
The relevance and significance of those years is important when Guyana was mired in the dust of corruption and vote rigging. The period selected by Granger was to attempt to hoodwink the nation and the world. What did he write? He wrote that national elections were scheduled to be held in July 1973 and the Guyana Defence Force (of which he was a distinguished member) “was called in to aid the civil power and prevent a breakdown of law and order that was planned by the gangsters.
Those gangsters, according to him were supporters of the PPP. He has not written about the ballot boxes being seized by his army colleagues and taken to Camp Ayangana in Georgetown where the votes were counted. He did not explain why the windows of the huge structure — Camp Ayangana — were blanketed with black window blinds. He has not written that when the ballots were taken out to be counted they were held together with rubber bands — where the PNC got more than 100 per cent of the votes cast.
So we have another write us on the elections in 1973 when Granger is telling the world he had nothing to do with it and he did not shoot or kill anyone — meaning the two kids who tried to save the ballots from the GDF soldiers on the Corentyne Coast.
But then not only Granger can write. We hear from the CIA FACEBOOK as follows: “The PNC’s increasing politicization and subordination of the GDF disturbed many members of the Officer Corps. When some expressed a desire for military neutrality, PNC informants in the armed forces alerted Burnham to the dissension within the GDF. Colonel Ulric Pilgrim, (the operational force commander who has since died), and Colonel Carl Morgan, a battalion commander (and still alive today) were dismissed. Pilgrim and Morgan had been two of the most popular officers in the GDF.
Burnham appointed a PNC loyalist Colonel DAVID GRANGER, commander of the GDF. David Granger is recruiting army veterans as “scrutineers” at polling booths at the forthcoming elections. Are these scrutineers among the soldiers who removed the ballot boxes in 1973 when two young men were slaughtered by members of Granger’s GDF then.
And we see ominous signs. Former Police Commissioner Felix has joined the band. We saw his appearance on Nomination Day when he was speaking to persons who shortly after invaded the Town Hall.
It is not disputed that Felix was the Commissioner of Police at the time when we had the Bagotstown massacre and he was allegedly thanked by a senior member of the PNC for directing attention away from members of that party in that slaughter. A tape of that telephone conversation is available.
Whither are we drifting.

Never before in the history of Post-Independence Guyana has there been reported an incidence of a Government official using a firearm to attack a private citizen. Under this PPP Government there have been at least two such incidents, the most recent involving Presidential Assistant Kwame McCoy.In our peaceful society guns were only seen and used by police and a few criminals. Today we have Ministers of the Government (now promoted to Ambassadors) threatening persons with pistols in public. All this since the disciplined forces have been cowed under Jagdeo´s fascism.
Bai Hussain, tell us some more about the Bagotstown massacre you mentioned in your letter. Date, time, where in the village, amount of people slain etc, etc, etc. Bai yuh mek Judas look like wah Angel.
Mr. Hussain should stop delving into history and say what his party has done for the country in the last 19 years. All the PPP is doing is erecting smoke screens to hade their shameful performance.
Stop delving into the past? Why should anyone not know of the past of so called leaders that want to rule Guyana, this man has despotic tendencies and want to relive the past glory days of PNC illegal rule, I agree with Mr. Hussain’s assesment in its totallity. Rachie1958 and Rumpunch1 are the ones that hate the truth when it comes to Guyana’s dark past.
We are STILL living in that past. The inglorious PNC days are mirrored, NAY, made worse under the PPP. We who know, know.
Keep telling the truth and expose Granger for what he is; a loyalist PNC operative who is part and parcel of that party’s discriminatory practices, race-baiting, vote-rigging, corruption and total ineptitude. Guyana cannot go back to the days of the PNC when Granger, through the GDF, was involved in vote-rigging that kept Burham and Hoyte in power for 28 years. Give Granger his real due.

I wonder if Mr Granger and Felix had joined the PPP/C party would Mr Hussain have written this letter.Hussain is truly a small part of our population that lived in the past. Our country was harmed by both parties and really need to move on joining the circle of happy nations, it time we leave the allegations of 1953 &1973.I was not there and so are many of the voters We are a free independent nation and not an Empire that will be ruled by the PPP/C.
Hussain stop giving power to the past.
Wither we are drifting?
We are drifting to Pradoville 2 with overnight billionaire sitting politicians. We are drifting to GPC and the strange purchase arrangement of medical supplies.
We are drifting to the hydro free for all, that will Not lower the cost of electricity. We are drifting to paying a good-for-nothing, cuss bird, 3 million a month for the rest of his greedy life.
Indeed, wither we are drifting!
