Gilbert Barckoy and Albert Madramootoo both posted wins to advance to the second round in the Pegasus Tennis
Open in action of the Men’s over-35 Singles action on Wednesday evening,
Barckoy had to battle hard against the tricky Harry Panday who stayed close in the first set which ended 6-4 whilst the second set was an easier 6-2 win for Barckoy whose serve posed problems for Panday in the match.
Veteran Madramootoo, who is a regular in all tournaments throughout the years, overcame Rawle Sue Ho in straight sets 6-2, 7-6. After losing the first set easily to the consistent Madramootoo, Sue Ho put up a strong fight in the second set as he forced a tie break at 6-6 before falling short.
In the other match played, veteran Doubles pair Maxie Fox/Sakae Yamada battled hard but also narrowly fell short in their quest to defeat youngsters Seanden and Saevion David-Longe who pulled off a well deserved three set win to advance to the next round. The David-Longe brothers held their nerve after losing the first set easily and pulled off the win by taking the second set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6) before winning the super tiebreak decider 10-8.
In the other match scheduled, Viraj Jugdeo / Kris Jugdeo advanced after they gained a walkover from Owen Lewis/Oswald Coggins and will face the second seeds Phillip Squires/Godfrey Lowden in the next round as the tournament continues.
