A Brazilian dredge owner was badly chopped early yesterday morning by one of his Guyanese employees after he was allegedly caught fondling a female cook in his Princeville Backdam, Mahdia, mining camp.
Sebastiao Farias, 51, of 111Miles, Potaro, has been admitted to the Mackenzie Hospital with cutlass wounds to the neck and jaw. Sources listed his condition as critical.
Kaieteur News understands the fracas between Farias and the 37-year-old miner started at around 00: 30 hrs yesterday when the miner came to the defence of a 25-year-old woman
to whom the Brazilian was reportedly attempting to sexually assault.
According to reports, the woman, who is employed as a cook was sleeping in the camp when the drudge owner began to fondle her.
The woman awoke and raised her alarm, resulting in the miner coming to her rescue. An argument ensued during which the Brazilian is said to have armed himself with a cutlass and a knife, while the suspect picked up a cutlass, with which he chopped Farias.
The wounded man was rushed to the Mackenzie Hospital while the miner was taken into custody.
