The police on the East Coast of Demerara are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s remains in a canal alongside the Ogle Old Road, a few yards from the Main East Coast highway.
The body of the dreadlocked male was half-naked. It was first discovered around midday on Wednesday by a group of boys who went home and informed their parents. However the parents reportedly paid them no mind.
The youths subsequently went back to the area later that afternoon and the body was still there. This time they informed other residents who in turn contacted the police.
Upon inspecting the body which appeared to have been at the location for more than two days, investigators observed that several fingers were missing. However, they believe that it was the work of dogs in the area, but they have not ruled out foul play.
They are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
