Under brilliant sunshine on Saturday last, at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground, Philanthropist, International footballer and Founder of Kayo’s Football Academy, Kayode McKinnon engaged a group of forty (40) academically ambitious and potential footballers ages 5-16 years-old (male & female) associated with the Uitvlugt Warriors Football Club along with students from the Academy in Linden.
McKinnon, accompanied and assisted by Head Coach of the Milerock FC Bryan Joseph, outlined the intricacies of the game and the importance of training relative to the rudiments of the sport.
The day’s session commenced with the recognition of the facilitators and each participant introduced themselves, outlining their ultimate goal as members of society and Guyana.
Coach Joseph introduced the game to the younger participants (ages 5 -11) with fun games which embraces the techniques and skills of football. Their obvious enjoyment proves the importance of imposing the game structurally and suitably at an early age. A 5-year-old female was the youngest participant in the programme.
McKinnon took charge of the older kids between the ages of 12-16 and demonstrated the techniques and skills of the various aspects of changing direction. A few leaders were identified, and the others were encouraged to come to the fore front, showcasing their ability with positivity.
The day’s activity also included classroom sessions which focused on the Laws of the Game and motivational speeches highlighting the importance of excelling in all of their pursuits.
At the end of a productive day, McKinnon expressed his pleasure in being able to impart his knowledge and being able to extend his Academy to the West Demerara.
The facilitators noted that the harvest of professional footballers to be derived from the players there who are all excited was great. They are encouraging all stakeholders to foster these seeds.
“We have started the change”, Kayode McKinnon.
