To be direct, it was a decade ago (September 11, 2001) when terrorists had unleashed their attacks on the World Trade Center (Twin Tower) in New York City which caused a lot of individuals to lose their love ones.
That terrible occurrence had left millions to mourn the terrible loss of lives and also left unpleasant memories to the Americans who witnessed the gruesome attack.
Another historic event which will be quite similar to the attack experienced in New York will be in the making in Georgetown, Guyana at the National Providence Stadium when Guyana attempts to unleash their dynamic attacks on the Twin Island, Trinidad and Tobago in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers on November 11.
Mark Xavier, Manager of Golden Jaguar Football team said that when this event occurs, (when Guyana defeats Trinidad and Tobago, the
Twin Island) it will be a blissful moment for Guyana which will comprise of an amusing memory rather than an unpleasant one that occurred ten years ago in New York.
The Golden Jaguars Senior men’s team is currently on top of their group by one point with Trinidad and Tobago a point behind.
The team is presently in camp at the Raddison Suite and is under the watchful eyes of the Coach, Wayne Dover who enlightened Kaieteur Sport in an invited comment about the team’s preparation for the crucial match which is slated for next week.
According to Dover, the National Squad has been part-taking in a lot of small sided games among themselves during their training session at high intensity level. This will aid in their weak areas and prepare them both mentally and physically for their home and return matches against Trinidad and Tobago.
He further added that the Golden Jags will be looking to capitalize on Trinidad’s weak areas which will be a great and major stepping stone for the team to qualify for the next leg of Qualifiers since Trinidad will be entering the Championships as the better team.
Dover went on to declare that the team will be playing in the same manner as they usually play, “good, solid team performance with a lot of good combination”; with this a lot of chances will be created for us, he said.
The Golden Jaguars will be seeking to administer a home win on November 11 at Providence Stadium against Trinidad and Tobago to qualify for the third phase of the Championship. They will also be playing to take up the President’s deal which entails cash incentive prizes along with house lots per player which they were promised by His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo.
Meanwhile, three new Canadian- based Guyanese have been added to the squad. They are: Julian Edwards, Joshua wheeler and Taylor Benjamin. (Juanita Hooper)
