Having conquered all at the local, Caribbean, Regional and International levels, Randolph ‘The Accomplisher’ Morgan continues to prove that he is the best in the business on the local scene.
A member of ‘Body Max Gym’ Morgan romped to another Overall Title when the curtains came down on the 2011 edition of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) Senior Championships which took place at the Saint Stanislaus College Auditorium yesterday.
Morgan, competing in the 83kgs Weight Class not only over powered four other rivals but became the third Guyanese to deadlift more than 700 pounds; achieving 320kgs (705lbs) with his second attempt yesterday.
What makes Morgan’s achievement more special is the fact that of the two other athletes who accomplished the feat (Mark ‘Uno’ Perry and Horace Steele) he is the lightest of them at 179lbs; he won his category which attracted the most competitors (5) with an overall total of 822.5kgs (Squat 295; Bench press 207.5; Deadlift 320) with his Wilkes Points totaling 553.87.
Upper Demerara Barbell Club’s Colin Mr. Clean’ Chesney who became the first Guyanese to Squat 800 lbs equaled that accomplishment again yesterday. Kimberly Mars-Loncke (Kingsrow Barbell Club) made a welcome return to the sport but had to settle for the runner-up position in the 84+ Class behind Guyana’s most accomplished female athlete Dawn Barker of the Upper Demerara Barbell Club.
Barker tallied 497.5 (Squat 205; Bench press 110; Deadlift 182.5), Wilkes Points 403.87, while Mars-Loncke had an overall total of 350 and Wilkes Points 310.48 (Squat 132.5; Bench press 70; Deadlift 147.5). Stoby ended as the runner-up to Morgan overall with Chesney 3rd and Mars 4th.
