The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Guyana’s leading Youth & Sports Club, as part
of its continued efforts to promote sports as an alternative to a life on the road on Tuesday last honoured three boxers of the Rose Hall Town Jammers Boxing Club (two females and one male) for their outstanding performances at the National Intermediate Boxing Championship in Georgetown.
Honoured were Akishna Arokium (Runner-up 100-105lbs division), Aleema Arokium (Champion 100-105bs division) and Tyran Lashley (Runner-up 80-85lbs division).
Club Secretary Hilbert Foster praised the three young boxers for making the Township of Rose Hall proud by doing so well at the National Championships.
Foster in remarks said that he has observed first hand, the hard work, commitment and sacrifice the boxers put into their training. He urged the trio to continue on the same path and pledged the Club’s help in assisting them to fulfill their dreams of becoming World Champions.
Foster told the boxers that they were now role models to their peers and as such must set a proper example for them to emulate.
Head Coach of the Rose Hall Town Jammers Boxing Club, Gregory Cort praised the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and its Secretary for making the boxers feel special as it would serve as an inspiration to more success.
He also expressed gratitude to the Club for allowing the boxing gym to use its facilities to train and he promised that the gym would continue to produce more champions in the future. Cort also expressed gratitude to Food For the Poor (Guy) Inc. for providing the gifts to honour the boxers and praised its Executive Director Mr. Leon Davis for his commitment to sports development in Guyana.
