Fourteen teams are anticipated to participate in the Opening Ceremony of the inaugural Georgetown Football Association (GFA) / Banks DIH President Beer Super League which kicks off today with a double header at the GFC ground.
According to a source close to the GFA, only Pele and Riddim Squad are yet to respond to the invitation.
The matches slated for today are Beacon versus Santos from 18:00 hrs and that will be followed by the feature between Fruta Conquerors and Sunburst Camptown from 20:00 hrs.
Meanwhile, there will be a March Past of teams at 17:00 hrs and that will be followed by feature addresses from a representative from sponsors Banks DIH, Director of Sport Neil Kumar and a member of the GFA executive.
With not much prior information of the teams preparations known the encounters could be very close affairs and fans should anticipate keen rivalry among the four combatants.
In the opening game, Santos, a team formed years ago and one with an illustrious record should start as favourites, but Beacon, a club in transitional mode after benefitting from quite a few defections from BK Western Tigers could spring a surprise.
Santos is expected to have in their line-up players such as Glenorvan Edmonds, a stocky built midfielder with enough skill to bother opposing defenders and he will be supported by Lenox Charles, Michael Pedro, Jermaine Fraser, Seon McKenzie and the enigmatic O’Neal Heywood between the uprights.
Beacon’s chance of winning rest on the shoulders of Dillon Fraser, Phillip Rowley, Leon Yaw, Sherwin Grimes, Keith Fraser and Jerome Richardson all very experienced players.
In the feature clash, Camptown will rely on the services of the inspirational elder Troy Prescod, Lance Rolston, Devon Forde, Leon Muir and Rishawn Sandiford to bolster their odds of victory, while Conquerors will be depending on their youthful brigade led by their ever improving striker Pernell Schultz, Steve Nelson, Trevon Lythcott, Kwame LaFleur, Jermain Junor, Joshua Brown and Colin Edwards to lead them to full points.
